Property Details
GV is one of the oldest farming properties on the Central Coast with a long history of pasture improvement.
Our lush paddocks are surrounded by unspoilt Australian bushland and thousands of acres of National Park.
While
parts of the property have been left in their natural state, continued pasture
improvement over the past 30 years has allowed the establishment of scores of
paddocks. All paddocks have vast areas of pasture, shelter and fresh spring water
through either dams or automatic drinkers.
We recently surveyed our current agisters and the feature that stood out the most for them was the quantity and quality of pastures available to them. Our pasture improvement program saves you a lot of expensive feed bills having to hard feed and for this reasons our current agisters also rated 'value for money' as a feature of our agistment.
There is such an abundance of quality, irrigated pastures that often we have to restrict access for some of our horses
The main (and largest) land holding is at Cooks Rd, Peats Ridge however Glenworth Valley also owns a number of other properties. One property located at Mt White is the perfect, quiet environment for our spelling horses that are retired. Another property located approximately 3 km further north on Peats Ridge Rd also caters for spelling agistment as well as riding and small group agistment. See agistment options.
Between all three properties there are more than 50 paddocks available.
Regardless of which property you decide to keep your horse at, all horses have access to our improved pastures, safe fencing, supervision, regular worming and dentist appointments if required.
Pasture Improvement Programs
Agisted horses are kept on improved pastures that are weed free, regularly rotated, slashed, fertilised and irrigated where required.
All
of our paddocks are large enough to accommodate the number of horses in each thus
ensuring they are never overstocked.
In late spring, summer and early autumn the pasture is predominantly Kikuyu and Clover.
Unlike most agistment facilities Glenworth Valley then spends many thousands of dollars preparing our pastures for winter. The advantage to our agisters is that during normal seasons there should be an abundance of quality pastures available which will keep your horse fat and healthy even during the coldest part of winter.
Over autumn and winter we typically plant a variety of forage oats and 3 different varieties of rye grass that all have slightly different growing seasons. Ultimately our winter active grasses will save you a considerable amount of money not having to hard feed your horse.
Although our pasture improvement program has been extremely successful we are always looking for ways to improve. We recently used a few paddocks as a trial for planting Lucerne (usually only grown at thoroughbred studs due to the establishment expenses) and we are now in the process of researching a number of different winter active perennial grasses.
In addition to saving you money, grass is the most natural feed for your horse's health. The varieties of grass we sow are all chosen because of their palatability for horses and the high trace element and mineral contents for your horses well being.
